Educational and Other Qualifications:
He is an Electrical Engineer from M.S. University of Baroda. During the service period, he acquired additional qualifications by passing out Certificate Courses in Management Areas; Production Planning and Control and Financial Management from Jamanalal Bajaj Institute of Management of Mumbai. When ISO 9000 Quality Management System touched our Indian shores in early 90s. he became a Corporate Management Representative and Chief Auditor at Crompton Greaves Organisation.
He was Lead Auditor /Auditor when he was with Certification bodies like, Bureau Veritas, DNV, TUV Rheinland and BSI India. At Indian Merchants’ Chambers, he became a Lead Examiner of Ramakrsihna Bajaj National Quality Award (which is based on Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award of USA). Later, he was qualified to Conduct Assessments against CII-Exim Bank Business Excellence Award (which is based on European Business Excellence Award). Finally, he was qualified for Assessing Certification Bodies and Inspection Bodies against IEC Standards at Quality Council of India (worked for National Accreditation Board for Certification Bodies).
Professional Career:
He has in all 50 years of professional experience covering Electrical Service and Plastic Industries. After joining Kirloskar Electric at Bangalore as a Designer was responsible overhauling design of Single Phase Motor to regain the lost Markets. He gained a good experience in Support functions like; Planning-both Production and Material-, Purchase, Stores, Maintenance etc. Apart from 3 phase Induction Motor, I also handled two other products; Single Phase Induction Motors and Single Phase Alternators. I got an excellent an opportunity of establishing all three Products at a New Plant located at Hubli, in Karnataka State.
He moved to Mumbai to join Crompton Greaves at Machine 1 Division at Worli in 1973. After establishing Production Planning & Control function in the Division, where Inventory was reduced from 6 months to 3 months. This helped in reducing demand of Working Capital/Finance in 1977. After handling Production for about an year, he focused on Total Organisational Improvement activity covering Quality and Productivity which helped the Division to remain in Profit.
Later, moving to head Quality function at Corporate Level in organization, initiated the Quality movement in the organization and established QMS (based on ISO 9000) in the organization which converted a group of Divisions to live on exports to developed countries. After my retirement, served Europe based Certification Organisations like; DNV, TUV Rheinland and BSI for conducting Audits and successfully, 500 Audits were conducted. After migrating to QCI as an Assessor supported NABCB has conducted Assessments at Certification Bodies and Inspection Bodies. Finally, he retired in April 2014 from the Services of NABCB.
He has presented few cases at the International Conferences. One Paper won the Prize at the Paper presented at the Jaipuria Institute Of Management, Jaipur in 2012. This lead to a publication of same case study in Canada based International Journal. Besides, his Kirloskar case study was published in yet another Canada based International Journal. At ASQ-Nirma Conferences at Ahmedabad and at SVNIT Institute at Surat, he is a regular speaker on successful case studies on quality topics for the last 3 -4 years.
